A LIVE GAME EVERY WEEK; Top clubs plan new TV deal.(Sport) - The Mirror (London, England)

LEADERS of the much criticised super league breakaway are aiming to woo Scots fans with plans for a live TV game from the new Premiership every week next season.

Negotiations are due to take place between representatives of the top clubs and terrestrial and satellite TV stations soon.

And the result could mean Old Firm fans in particular having lots of free Saturdays as their matches are switched to suit the telly companies.

The new Premiership has still to be approved by the Scottish League clubs, but talks have already taken place to find big-money sponsors.

However, the only way for the new league to attract more TV cash - and in turn more backers - is to allow a greater number of matches to be broadcast live.

More TV coverage is the key to the Premiership attracting new sponsors.

The Scottish League's current deal allows Sky to broadcast up to 17 matches live from the three domestic competitions, while Scottish Television have the rights to show seven live games.

Those agreements expire at the end of the season - and the breakaway leaders want to seal a deal similar to the one negotiated by the English Premiership, although not exclusively on satellite TV.

Targets

Celtic and Rangers will be the prime targets for network broadcasts. Old Firm meetings on Sky produce viewing figures to rival the top English fixtures.

As a result, the big two will be in greater demand.

The Premiership needs increased TV exposure in order to justify the cash they are seeking from sponsors.
