Live sports perish on free-to-air TV. - Australasian Business Intelligence

Byline: Dennis Shanahan

Aug 24, 2006 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian free-to-air TV does not broadcast a great deal of the sport to which it holds exclusive rights. It is though that a survey by the Australian Communications & Media Authority has found that only about 20 per cent of the sports were broadcast live. The report examined how much sport is shown slightly delayed and how much is not broadcast at all. Australian pay-TV operators are lobbying for access to the sports to which free-to-air TV broadcasters hold exclusive rights but are not broadcasting.
