A decision not to televise the Australian National Rugby League grand final live in Perth has led to calls for changes to anti-siphoning laws. The Australian Subscription Television & Radio Association (ASTRA) has argued that Channel Nine Perth's decision to show a delayed telecast of the match highlighted the problem with reserving sporting events for free-to-air TV. ASTRA said that the game should be shown live across Australia. However, Channel Nine Perth said that Perth did not have a big enough rugby league following to justify live coverage. ASTRA said that anti-siphoning rules needed to be reviewed, with pay-TV companies to be allowed to bid against free-to-air TV companies for events.
